Website Architecture & Crawl Depth Explorer
Explore your website's architecture in three dimensions. Investigate crawl depth, internal-link relationships and opportunities to improve your website's structure.
WHAT TO KNOW
Understand your website's architecture and crawl depth
Explore how discovered pages are organised and connected. Each node represents a URL, while connecting lines show internal links between pages.
Investigate crawl depth, identify deeply buried pages and uncover website sections that may benefit from clearer navigation and stronger internal linking.
Website Architecture & Crawl Depth Explorer
Explore your website's hierarchy in an interactive 3D network. Investigate page relationships, compare crawl depths and review structural SEO findings to identify potential improvements.
How to use the Website Architecture & Crawl Depth Explorer
- Enter a website URL. Provide the public website address you want to analyse.
- Choose a crawl depth. Select Standard (depth 3) or Extended (depth 5). The crawl remains subject to your account's URL and usage limits.
- Explore the architecture. Discovered pages appear as nodes in a three-dimensional network, with connections representing internal links. Node colours help distinguish crawl-depth levels.
- Navigate the 3D map. Drag to rotate the view, zoom in or out and use Reset View to restore the original camera position.
- Inspect individual pages. Select a node to investigate its URL, crawl depth and discovered internal-link relationships.
- Review architecture findings. Examine crawl-depth distribution, deeply buried pages, weakly connected sections and differences between URL structure and click depth.
- Export results. Use the available export controls once the crawl and visualisation have completed.
Explore and navigate your website architecture
Once your crawl is complete, use the interactive visualisation to investigate website structure, crawl depth and internal links.
Desktop controls
- Mouse wheel: Scroll to zoom in or out.
- Left-click and drag: Rotate the 3D architecture to view it from different angles.
- Right-click and drag: Move (pan) across the 3D visualisation.
- Click a page node: Select a URL to inspect its details, incoming links and outgoing links.
- Zoom + / Zoom −: Adjust the zoom level using the on-screen controls.
- Reset View: Return to the original view of your website architecture.
- Find a page: Search for a discovered URL to locate and highlight it in the visualisation.
Touchscreen controls
- One-finger drag: Rotate the 3D visualisation.
- Two-finger gestures: Zoom and move around the architecture.
- Tap a page node: Select a URL and inspect its internal linking relationships.
2D fallback: If your browser cannot display the 3D visualisation, the alternative 2D map supports zooming and panning instead of rotation.
Tip: Explore different areas of your website to identify deeply buried pages, isolated sections and potential internal linking opportunities.
Understanding URL relationships:
- Incoming internal links: Links from other URLs on the website that point to the selected URL.
- Outgoing internal links: Links from the selected URL to other URLs on the same website.
- Other internal connections: Links between other discovered URLs, excluding connections directly involving the selected URL.
Understanding website architecture: Each node represents a discovered URL. Its position reflects observed crawl depth — the minimum number of internal-link steps from the starting URL. URL path depth is assessed separately to identify differences between URL structure and internal-link hierarchy.
Important: The analysis is based on pages and links discovered during a limited crawl. Crawling respects robots.txt and is limited to 200 attempted URLs for anonymous visitors or 500 for signed-in accounts. Results may not represent the entire website.
Crawling limits and rules
This tool analyses website architecture and crawl depth using pages and internal links discovered during a limited crawl. Its findings may not represent the entire website.
- Page limits: Anonymous visitors can attempt up to 200 unique URLs per crawl. Registered Free users and Consultancy Clients can attempt up to 500.
- Shared 14-day allowance: Anonymous visitors receive three crawls per rolling 14 days per public IP address. Registered Free accounts receive 10 crawls shared across users of that account. Consultancy Client accounts have no periodic crawl limit. Allowances are shared across the Website Architecture & Crawl Depth Explorer, Website Broken Link & Redirect Checker and Single Page Link Checker. Technical safety limits still apply. When a limited allowance is exhausted, the tool displays approximately how long remains until another crawl becomes available.
- One crawl at a time: Only one crawl can run in the same browser tab.
- Same-origin restriction: Crawling stays within the starting URL's protocol, hostname and port. Cross-origin redirects are not followed.
- Robots.txt: Crawling respects the website's robots.txt restrictions.
- Adaptive crawling speed: Pages are requested individually, with the crawling speed adjusted according to response times and errors. Requests may slow down or pause when rate limits are encountered to reduce server load. Crawl duration may vary.
- Internal website links only: External website links are excluded from the map.
- Crawl coverage limitations: Blocked, unavailable or unsuccessful pages may not appear. JavaScript-generated links may not be discovered.
- Discovered link counts: Incoming and outgoing links reflect relationships discovered within the crawl, not necessarily the entire website.
Intended for lightweight website architecture and crawl-depth analysis, not a comprehensive technical SEO audit.
Larger nodes represent more unique observed incoming linking pages, not calculated SEO authority. An amber outline marks the selected page.

Website Architecture & Crawl Depth SEO Tip
Crawl depth measures the shortest discovered internal-link path from the starting URL. Important pages buried several clicks deep may be harder for visitors and search engines to discover. Clear navigation and relevant contextual links can improve access.
Review the crawl-depth distribution, deeply buried pages and weakly connected sections. Prioritise changes according to page importance, user journeys and the relevance of potential links.
Important: Crawl depth and internal-link relationships are structural indicators, not direct measures of ranking potential. Interpret findings alongside content relevance, search intent, crawlability and other SEO factors.
