How to use the SEO Keyword Mapping Generator

Choose an input method. Upload an XML sitemap or paste a list of URLs to generate a keyword mapping spreadsheet. Website crawling and remote sitemap URL import are being developed.
Review your website structure. Each URL appears alongside up to five hierarchy levels to help organise pages by section and topic. The five levels describe URL depth, not a five-page limit.
Assign keywords. Enter a primary keyword and up to five related keyword variations for each page. Add search volumes from your own keyword research; the tool does not invent them.
Organise the mapping. Choose commercial-first or alphabetical ordering, and edit the spreadsheet directly.
Export your work. Download your mapping and edits as CSV, or download a formatted Excel workbook on desktop.

Mobile devices: The full editable spreadsheet is designed for desktop. On mobile, you can generate a mapping and download its complete CSV.

Crawling limits and rules

XML sitemap uploads: Upload a file of up to 5 MB containing up to 500 URLs. The five hierarchy columns do not restrict the number of pages.

Website crawling (in development): The planned shared allowance is three crawls per rolling 14 days for anonymous visitors and ten for registered free users. Consultancy clients will have no periodic crawl allowance, subject to technical and safety restrictions.

Planned per-crawl page limits: 200 for anonymous visitors and 500 for registered or consultancy-client accounts.
Only website crawling will use the shared crawl allowance. Uploading a sitemap, pasting URLs, editing and exporting will not consume crawl credits.
Website crawling will be subject to the existing security, access and processing restrictions.

These crawling allowances will apply when website crawling is enabled; they do not prevent you from using the currently available upload and paste methods.

Save and resume your keyword mapping

Your keyword mapping can be saved automatically in this browser. Your saved keywords, search volumes and page ordering remain on this device rather than being uploaded to Vital SEO's servers.

Return using the same browser and device to resume your work. Clearing browser data may remove your saved mapping, so we recommend downloading an Excel or CSV copy for safekeeping.

Keyword Mapping SEO Tip

Choose a primary keyword for each important page based on search intent, relevance and the content's purpose. Related variations can support that topic without requiring separate pages for every phrase.

Review overlapping page targets to reduce unnecessary keyword cannibalisation. Check search demand and existing performance using reliable keyword research data before finalising your map.
